Flint is an important basic crafting material in Valheim. Here's how you can find it easily.
Valheim is a survival game that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Apart from building structures to keep you safe, you also need to worry about the materials required for basic crafting recipes. Once such resource is flint, something you'll use quite a bit of. It's especially important earlier in the game, when you don't have access to some of the other core types of metals aren't available.
Where to find flint in Valheim
Since flint is such an integral part of the Valheim experience, it isn't that hard to find, especially when you're just starting. With that in mind, search around the Meadows biome, where you begin the game.
As you search around the Meadows, you'll come into contact with creatures like boar, deer, and other items you'll want to take note of while you get your bearings.
Flint is simple to spot if you know what you're looking for. Look up and down bodies of water around the Meadows for light gray stones. They're a bit rounded, as you can see in the image above. You may also spot the flint located just below the surface around some bodies of water. If you want to make sure it's flint, you should see a label pop up to confirm once you get near it.
All you have to do from there is add it to your inventory. Be diligent in your search for flint, as it's an important part of your arsenal of supplies if you want to live as long as possible. There are several important ways to use it, so the more you have, the better. Keep searching the areas around the Meadows, especially near water, and you should have an abundance of it to fit your needs when necessary.
In a pinch, you can also destroy tanning racks in Fuling Villages to get some flint. Be on the lookout for unique opportunities like this to ensure your inventory is never empty of this essential building material.
What to use flint for in Valheim
Flint is an all-purpose crafting material in Valheim. It can be used for several different things. It can be made into useful tools, such as the Flint Axe (learn how to make a pickaxe here) as well as a Flint Spear, Flint Knife, and Flinthead Arrow. Flinthead Arrows are an important part of your early arsenal against enemies, so make sure you top off your stores of them and find plenty of flint to do it with.
You can also build chopping blocks and tanning racks with flint. Chopping blocks and tanning racks can be used to upgrade your Workbench. This in turn helps you to create better, stronger items. The better stores of flint you find, the better your overall inventory will become. As you're no doubt aware by now, it's important to collect as many different materials and equipment as possible to improve your living situation. You never know what kind of threat is going to pop up next.
Now that you know where to find flint and what to use it for in Valheim, you're one step closer to living a comfortable lifestyle in-game. Be careful, though, and keep at it. One slip-up could mean the difference between life and death.
