Christmas time is almost here - the gift-buying season is well and truly upon us, and what better to buy for the esports fan in your life than merch for their favourite team?
Esports merchandise has been raising the bar for sports merchandise across the board, from streetwear collabs to special edition World Championship jerseys - and the League of Legends European Championship hosts not only some of the world’s best teams but the world’s best merch:
Something for the mechanical keyboard fans out there! This year, Fnatic released a run of limited edition artisan keycaps based on the elements - and although those sold out almost instantly, the organisation has released another limited run just in time for the festive season. Grab your own very angry panda as a keyboard companion, on a 4-6 week preorder.
Sometimes merchandise doesn’t just have to be fashionable - it can serve a greater purpose.
Midway through the Summer Split, Schalke 04 debuted a new, all-black jersey, 50% of the proceeds of which would go towards the Robert-Enke-Stiftung Foundation in Germany. The foundation raises awareness about mental health issues, particularly amongst professional sportspeople, with the organisation named after professional German footballer Rober Enke, who committed suicide in 2009.
Esports merch has seen it all. Hoodies, sweatshirts, jerseys, flags - if you want it, chances are an esports org can put their logo on it. This year, MAD Lions took it a step further with their collaboration with sports apparel company Kappa, and released a MAD branded pair of trainers. Snap these up for the sneakerhead in your life, and watch them represent MAD Lions with the team’s official colourway.
G2 Esports are famous for their tongue-in-cheek attitude, both on stage and on their Twitter, and this Christmas collection couldn’t be more apt. Perfect for the Grinch in your life, and possibly not appropriate to wear around kids, G2 fans can represent their team in the most G2 way possible with this Christmas sweater, scarf and hat.
This merch drop showcases a transatlantic collaboration between European org Misfits and American sports apparel manufacturer Outerstuff, one of the chief merchandisers for the NFL and NBA. The collab features hoodies and shirts, but the piece that really caught our eye was this black and red windbreaker. Perfect for the colder months, the Misfits fan in your life can wrap up in style!
We couldn’t use the image in the title without giving a shoutout to the LEC x Secretlab chair collection that came out earlier this year.
Although not related to a specific team, this is the perfect gift for those fans who just want to see Europe do well. You may not be affiliated with any specific team, but you cheer for the pride of Europe at international events with as much gusto as anyone else.
Although by far the priciest item on this list, these chairs are incredible quality and super comfortable - and although the pre-order might not quite arrive in time for Christmas, anyone unwrapping this gift will be more than happy they waited.
There you have it - five of the greatest gifts for the LEC fan in your life! Whether their team is a Worlds Finalist or didn’t quite make playoffs, there’s something for everyone here.
We’d personally recommend the Fnatic keycaps for a unique, limited-edition gift, or perhaps the Misfits windbreaker for those fans who prefer to wear their heart (or their team’s logo) on their sleeve.
You could even push the boat out and treat yourself to a little early Christmas TLC, because the best kind of love is self-love, and the best kind of jersey is one you’ve bought yourself.
Happy shopping, and happy holidays, LEC fans!
